Montedinove Study Centre
The “Eraldo Vagnetti” Centre for Historical and Artistic Studies is a cultural institution dedicated to the memory, research and promotion of Montedinove’s historical and artistic heritage. Established as part of the Sibillini Romantici project, the Centre is housed in the town’s historic sixteenth-century municipal palace and brings together the historical archive, library and consultation spaces within a permanent framework of study, research and public dissemination. It is named after Eraldo Vagnetti, a scholar and passionate custodian of local history, who devoted much of his life to researching, collecting and passing on the memory of Montedinove.
The Centre was founded with the aim of strengthening the bond between the community and the history of the place, making accessible the documents, testimonies, figures and events that have helped shape the identity of Montedinove and the Piceno area. It is a space designed for scholars, residents and visitors alike, as well as a tool for cultural and tourism development: a place where local memory becomes an opportunity for knowledge, storytelling and renewed appeal for the village.
The work of the Study Centre is carried out through archival research, the study of historical sources, public meetings, educational content and publications devoted to local history. This also includes the production of volumes on Montedinove, conceived to present in an organic form the body of knowledge that has emerged from the study of the municipal archive, historical investigations, and the collection of documents, testimonies and iconographic materials.
The Centre’s first public initiatives have already set this path in motion, with conferences dedicated to key themes and figures in the cultural history of the area: from the Maggi family, protagonists of the eighteenth-century architectural reconstruction, to Cino Del Duca, the Montedinove-born publisher and producer, a figure of European significance and Pier Paolo Pasolini’s first film producer. Through meetings, research, publications and heritage-promotion activities, the “Eraldo Vagnetti” Study Centre stands as a living place, capable of preserving the past and transforming it into shared knowledge for the future.
